Research Interests
Dr. Chavkin's lab studies mechanisms underlying stress potentiation of drug addiction risk. Stress dramatically increases the motivation to consume addictive substances and triggers relapse in persons struggling to maintain abstinence. Dr. Chavkin's lab uses mouse genetics models of behavior to identify the neurochemical and brain circuit mechanisms responsible.
